Here are a few updates as we start the school year on how we're supporting our gifted students:
- Gifted students in grades 3-5 will be supported in instruction by a consultant from the Ashtabula County Educational Service Center.
- Students at the middle school level (grades 6-8) will be provided instruction in a cluster grouping model within classes to challenge and accelerate their learning within the English/Language Arts, Mathematics, and 8th Grade Advanced Science settings.
- Identified students at the high school level (grades 9-12) will be able to receive instruction through honors, College Credit Plus (CCP), and Advanced Placement (AP) courses that are offered.
- To enhance our current Geneva teachers and ensure compliance with providing gifted services to our students, staff will be provided with ongoing professional development offerings specifically related to gifted programming.
Since we will be providing our teachers with professional development, all identified students - including those identified as Superior Cognitive, Creative Thinkers, as well as the four academic areas (English/Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies) will be served. Students will be receiving their gifted services in the specific manner indicated earlier while others will be served through differentiation from their classroom teachers who will be participating in the PD opportunities.
For the 2022/23 school year, this instructional effort across all grade levels was determined as the best approach to meet the needs of our students. Supporting the professional growth of our staff and utilizing their efforts will allow our students to flourish.
