GHS Thespian's present...
Here are the GHS Announcements for Thursday, October 24th.
This just in: ladies and gentlemen, pastry enthusiasts and runners alike, hold onto your donut holes because we have the results of this year’s sweetest event, the ultimate test of gastrointestinal fortitude —the 83rd Annual Geneva High School Donut Run! Despite the scorching heat, our brave athletes rose to the occasion like dough in 90% humidity.
Taking first place (and the title of “Fastest Freshman with a Sweet Tooth”) is Aiden Palinkas! Aiden sprinted past the finish line, powered by a perfectly fluffy raised maple donut. He proved that in any race, “donut” count him out! Aiden pulled ahead in the final stretch after a surprise appearance by a local train left second-place contender Damien Anderson in a bit of a jam.
Speaking of Damien Anderson, he was leading the pack before being derailed by that pesky train, allowing Aiden to close the gap faster than you can say “baker’s dozen.” Damien settled for second place, fueled by a classic glazed donut that was anything but basic. He may have missed first place by a length of a cinnamon stick, but he’s still the king of keeping it simple and sweet!
In third place, we have Taylor Noce, our favorite sophomore who embraced the spirit of the race with a donut as colorful as her personality—a sprinkled donut, of course! Taylor cruised into the third spot, proving that a little extra flair (and a whole lot of sprinkles) goes a long way.
Now, we would be remiss if we didn’t give a special shout-out to freshman Richard Balog, who, well... had a less-than-digestive experience around the 1.5-mile mark. Richard, if you're hearing this, just remember: you really gave it your all—and a little more! Next time, we’ll work on keeping those donuts down and those spirits up! Another honorable mention goes out to Riley Michalski, who not only ran the entire race in her Converse shoes, but she completed a gritty 20 burpees at the halfway point of the race in order to avoid cramping on a cruller.
Kudos to all the runners who dough-nated their time, sweat, and stomachs to this year's race. Good luck to Don Shymske, Jovan Sanchez, and Mackenzie Lyons at regional competition this weekend. Until next year, may your runs be swift, your donuts be sweet, and your trains be nowhere in sight!
