Resource Officer Joe Cooper and NAD (Northwest Ambulance District) paramedics Rory Shaw and Rob Bernardo, brought the Stop the Bleed program to students in grades 6th, 7th and 8th at Geneva Middle School. Stop the Bleed is a program that teaches students three quick techniques to help save a life. Students were taught how: (1) How to use your hands to apply pressure to a wound; (2) How to pack a wound to control bleeding; (3) How to correctly apply a tourniquet, before someone bleeds out. When asked why he brought Stop the Bleed to Geneva Middle School Officer Cooper responded “We brought the program so that the students can learn skills that they can take with them throughout their lives. A life they save can be their own, a loved one or even a stranger. We plan on having all students in grades 6-12 trained by the first of the year.”

Unity Day is a national event in the United States that takes place every year on the third Wednesday in October. The primary aim of Unity Day is to raise awareness about bullying prevention and promote a culture of kindness, acceptance, and inclusion in schools, workplaces, and communities. Unit Day at Geneva Middle School Wearing Orange: Staff and Students wore orange as a symbol of unity and support for the cause. Orange was chosen for its bright, vibrant color, representing a future free from bullying. Anti-Bullying Awareness: Unity Day is closely tied to the anti-bullying movement. Each month Geneva Middle School will hold an event to promote anti-bullying, support, openness, acceptance and respect for others. Social Media Campaigns: We used our Instagram page (@GMS-Eagles) to spread the message of Unity Day. The hashtag #UnityDay is widely used to encourage dialogue and participation. Pledges and Commitments: People often make pledges to stand against bullying and promote a culture of respect and inclusion. These commitments extend beyond Unity Day and aim to create long-lasting change. Unity Day is a vital reminder that bullying and discrimination have no place in Geneva Schools and our community. It's a day to come together, celebrate our differences, and recommit to creating a more compassionate and inclusive society.
